Welcome to Jefferson County Community Ministries, Inc.
Jefferson County Community Ministries, Inc. (JCCM) is a cooperative ministry of local churches to assist people in need. Assistance is provided on a limited scale for short-term emergencies in an effort to enable people to work out permanent solutions for meeting their own needs.
JCCM can provide assistance with food, clothing, and limited financial aid aimed toward meeting essential expenses including rent, utilities, medicine, heating fuel, and gasoline. Assistance is provided by referring those persons who qualify to appropriate agencies, providing resources donated or purchased for this purpose such as food and clothing, and through arrangements with local vendors who accept checks or credit vouchers.
JCCM combines the compassion and the resources of the participating churches into a central location. It ensures availability of resources, unnecessary duplication in services by churches and other community agencies, and enables a greater stewardship of money and other resources.
JCCM started in 1982 in two separate churches and one large building that was the food pantry. In 1983, JCCM was incorporated (nonprofit). It has grown from involving five churches in the center of Charles Town, West Virginia to a membership that now includes 45 churches all over the entire County of Jefferson. In 2001, JCCM transformed one large 6400 square foot building (an old J.C. Penney’s store) into 18 rooms, accommodating our own needs for office space, a clothing closet, and a food pantry.
How is JCCM Supported?
We were started and are supported by the churches and religious organizations in Jefferson County. Donations are also received from individuals, civic groups, businesses, state grants and some FEMA monies, local municipalities, and the National Area Combined Federal Campaign contributions. Operation support for JCCM is provided by a number of churches who through signing the “Covenant for Ministry” have pledged representatives to the Board of Directors, prayer and financial support, donations of food and clothing, volunteers, and publicity and promotion of the work and needs of JCCM.
All individuals, businesses, community partnerships, clubs, and congregations are invited to support JCCM!
